Pearl High School was an incubator of hope.in the North Nashville community. Pearl High was an extension of the village of Washington Jr. High School and Coaches James Tisdale and William Gupton. The village included the homes, churches, and community members of North Nashville. This village became renowned as Coach Cornelius Ridley had unprecedented success, becoming the “winningest coach in NIL History”. Ridley coached teams and produced 5 High School Basketball Championships: one national, two in the THSSA; one as a TSSAA Affiliate, and the historic 1966 TSSAA Championship win in the first year that Negro teams were allowed to complete.
