Deon Flash
Canada
Jamaican born, Canadian citizen, Deon Flash, is one of the major bright lights on the Toronto Christian/ Gospel music scene. An accomplished artist, composer, and pianist/organist, Deon’s music blossomed at an early age, playing the piano and organ for church from the age of 11. His formal piano lessons started at the age of 7, and he continued on to take pipe organ lessons at the age of 12 when he started playing organ for his local church. In 1990, he received his ARCT (piano performance) and in 1995 he received his Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance at the University of Toronto.
Since then, Deon has performed as a soloist and accompanist all over North America and the Caribbean in many different capacities, such as resident accompanist for the Bermuda Philharmonic Chorus, solo pianist for the Bermuda Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of the late Dr. Gary Burgess and resident pianist for the musical “The Hot Mikado”. He also served as musical director and organist for the Mount Zion AME, Allen Temple AME and Somerset SDA churches in Bermuda. Currently he resides in the Greater Toronto Area and plays for local choirs and churches in the area. In 2007 he recorded his debut CD “Journey with Hymn” which won a Maja Award for best instrumental gospel album.
This year will mark the introduction of a two part recording project featuring a piano solo project (The Prayer Project-Part 1) and a band project (The Prayer Project – Part 2).
